In week 8 of the grow, we defoliated and lollipopped the Aurora Indicas, then switched them into flowering. Now let's check in and see how flowering is going in week 9.

Legal note: Growing cannabis is only for adults 21 and over where state law allows it. State home-grow rules differ, so check yours first.

Under federal law, marijuana is still a Schedule I controlled substance unless it is in an FDA-approved drug or covered by a state medical marijuana license; a federal order moved those two categories to Schedule III in April 2026. A DEA hearing on rescheduling the rest of marijuana was set for mid-2026.

Day 54

We're about halfway through the first week of flowering, and the plants look healthy and very bushy. I removed the inward-hanging fan leaves that were shading the smaller lower tops.

Then I tied down branches to spread out the canopy so more light reaches the lower layers.

Day 55

I added trellis netting to the tent to spread out the branches and keep heavy buds from falling over, a problem I've run into before. This technique is called SCROG, short for "screen of green."

I bought these seeds from Seedsman, and SCROG was the training they suggested for these two strains.

Day 56

Since hanging the netting, I've been tucking the tallest tops under it to bring all the tops to the same height.

I’ve also been using the netting to spread out the branches evenly for maximum light penetration. You can really see how the tops have curled back upwards.
