I finally got my hands on some Black Cherry Punch made by North 40 Cannabis that the twitterverse has been raving about. This Indica-dominant cultiver is a product under the Farmstead brand, purchased at Shelter Market (medical) and I can now understand what all the hype was about. These numbers are ridiculous, it came with 32.83% THC and 3.55% terpenes! Please note that this is a medical product, below is a more in-depth breakdown of this sweet cultivar.
Lineage: Purple Punch x Black Cherry
Terpene Profile: Farnesene (1.27%), Limonene (0.78%), Caryophyllene (0.4%),
Packaging Details: Packaged 11/30/2020 and tested/reviewed on 03/14/2021, exactly 104 days later. Lot# 20-P88RR
Pricing Details: Purchased 3.5 grams from SHelter Market for $30.00 ($8.57/gram, this was a discount, regular price: $40.00)
Let’s start with the glass container, did I already say how much I loved those? Inside of it, there were six elongated hand-trimmed buds of a light-green shade with purple calyxes, covered in a sheet of trichomes, some milky, and some amber. Visually they looked very nice; however, the RH being at 37% in the container is a little low for me, stickiness was present, but you can tell that the flower was too dry. I re-hydrated the weed with a Boveda pack for 24 hours; the terps were still very lively; see below!
I’ve tried the Black Cherry cultivar in the past; it smelled sweet but not really like cherries. This Black Cherry Punch strain actually smells like crushed cherries, which was very impressive; I didn’t expect that. The scents are quite potent, with a heavy sweet cherry aroma accented by some spice and woody pine. You kind of just want to keep your nostrils inside the container!
This terpene profile emits such complex flavors, taste-wise this Black Cherry Punch goes all over the place; it’s fun and exciting! I got some sweet cherry, hops, pine, and a spicy effect to top it all off on the inhale. Even some vanilla notes lingered on the palate on the exhale, which felt like the CHERRY on top; sorry, I had to do it at least once.
Because of the cannabinoid content, I thought that this Black Cherry Punch strain review would include something like “this turned me into a non-functional zombie.” I was wrong; it was way more than just a couch-glue situation. The initial high came in fast and furious; within 10 minutes of lighting the joint, I felt my entire body just decompress, tingles all over. This isn’t just a body thing either; there are serious cerebral effects that make your brain feel like it’s slowing down the thought process. It’s a roller coaster ride of a high!
This was an excellent first experience that I had with a North 40 cannabis product. My expectations were high (although I try hard to not have any before trying) because of the rave reviews I’ve read online. They were met and exceeded, from the terpiness to the pungent smells and flavors to the heavy-duty effects; I would recommend this to everybody. Beginners beware, though, make sure that you don’t have anything too “important” to do after smoking this!
