Ohio voters approved adult-use marijuana with Issue 2 in November 2023. Adults 21 and older can now grow a limited number of plants at home, so more residents are asking where to buy marijuana seeds in Ohio.

Our top recommendation is ILGM, an online seed bank that ships to Ohio with discreet delivery and an advertised germination guarantee.

Online Seed Banks That Ship to Ohio

Buying online gives you far more strains to choose from than a local shop, plus growing guides and support.

ILGM (I Love Growing Marijuana)

ILGM is our top pick for Ohio growers. The U.S.-based seed bank ships nationwide and advertises a germination guarantee; check the current terms on its site.

Its product pages list details such as flowering time and expected yield, which helps you match seeds to Ohio's climate. It also publishes beginner-friendly grow guides.

Herbies USA Express

Another option is Herbies USA Express, which ships from inside the United States and avoids customs delays.

Herbies carries many breeders, with filters for effects, grow difficulty, and yield. It often includes promotional free seeds with orders.

For help choosing a seed type, see our guides on feminized seeds and autoflowering seeds.

Some head shops may carry cannabis seeds, but selections are small and there is usually no germination guarantee. Old or poorly stored seeds are also a risk.

For fresher seeds and more choice, an established online seed bank is the better option.

The Legality of Marijuana Seeds in Ohio

Issue 2 legalized adult-use marijuana for adults 21 and older. A later law, S.B. 56, merged the adult-use and medical programs under the Division of Cannabis Control.

According to the Ohio Legislative Service Commission's analysis of S.B. 56, the law took effect March 20, 2026. Licensed dispensaries now serve both adult-use and medical customers.

Is it Legal to Buy & Grow Cannabis Seeds in Ohio?

Yes, for adults 21 and older. Ohio allows up to six plants per adult, with no more than 12 plants per household.

Under S.B. 56, exceeding the 12-plant limit by any number of plants is a crime. Home grow must happen at your primary residence. It is not allowed in a childcare home or in a rental whose lease prohibits it.

Federal law is stricter. Marijuana remains a Schedule I controlled substance; a DEA final rule effective April 28, 2026 moved only FDA-approved marijuana drug products and state-licensed medical marijuana into Schedule III.

Keep plants and harvested cannabis secured and away from children. NIDA notes that cannabis use carries real risks, especially for young people.

Should You Grow Weed Indoors or Outdoors in Ohio?

Outdoor growing is possible from late spring through early fall. Humid summers and heavy rain make mold a serious risk, so mold-resistant, fast-flowering strains do best outdoors.

Indoor growing costs more upfront but gives you year-round control over light, humidity, and temperature. That control usually means more consistent results.

When to Sprout Cannabis Seeds in Ohio

For outdoor grows, germinate seeds indoors in late April or early May. Transplant after the last frost, usually around mid-May, so plants can finish before the cool, wet fall.

Indoor growers can start any time. Set up and test your grow space before germinating to avoid stunted growth or transplant shock.
